Plenty of AI weeks end with a demo reel and a shared drive full of screenshots. The sponsor leaves impressed. On Monday nobody can say what the team decided, who the next customer to test with is, or which idea just died.
The GV design sprint answers a critical business question in five days through design, prototyping and testing with customers. On Thursday the team builds a realistic facade it can finish in a day. On Friday it gets clear data by watching real people react. An AI design sprint has to keep that spine. AI can speed up research notes, sketches and the prototype. The customer test and the decision at the end still belong to the team.
What the team should hold when they leave
Before anyone books flights home, I want three things on the table. The first is a written decision on which concept moves ahead and which dies. The second is a prototype real enough that customers treated it as the product. The third is a short list of the assumptions the interviews changed.
In our AI design sprints workshop, the team runs a compressed sprint on a live challenge and uses AI for research, ideas and the prototype. They leave with a tested concept and a clear call. If a vendor's agenda ends on a model comparison and never books a customer, you'll leave with a demo and no decision.
How AI should sit in the week
Use the tools where speed helps and a person still makes the judgment call. AI can cluster interview notes and mock up screens overnight. People should still pick the target customer and write the interview guide. Someone on the team should watch every Friday session and read the room themselves.
Keep the fake-it rule from the original sprint and build only the surface the customer sees. A week spent wiring a half-real system is a week you can't spend learning whether anyone wants the thing. A realistic facade is enough to test, and focusing on it is how you finish the prototype in a day.
Questions to ask before you book
- Which business question must this week answer, written in one sentence?
- How many real customers will the team interview on the final day, and who is recruiting them now?
- What will the team be allowed to kill by Friday afternoon?
If the sponsor can't answer the third question, the sprint will protect every idea and teach the team very little. Get the customers recruited before you book a room.
Run it as an AI design sprint when the week has to end in a decision.
